Buenos Aires benefits from a temperate climate; it is barely affected by the humidity common around wide estuaries and deltas –in this case, the La Plata River and Paraná River, respectively.
The average annual temperature is 18ºC though there are moderate variations during each season.
Nonetheless, in the past few years, the maximum and minimum temperatures have been altered –a global occurrence- resulting in unseasonable cool winters –between 3ºC and 10ºC- and hot summers –between 26ºC and 31ºC. Furthermore, spring and autumn are less pronounced then they used to be.
The coldest months are July and August- during which it is necessary to wear a coat (along with hats, scarves and sweaters). During the warmest months, January and February, light clothes are recommended.
Autumn and Spring: cool mornings and temperate temperatures around midday, dropping slightly in the evenings.
Winter: Cold in the morning, lessening by midday and early evening, low again after dark.
Summer: Humid heat with warm mornings, scorching afternoons and early evenings. Temperatures drop slightly in the late evenings and at night- although, in general, not enough to call for a jacket.
Rain is common both during spring and autumn (September to December and March to June, respectively). During the summer (December, January and February), the rain is passing and light, usually in the form of drizzles, and typically doesn’t require protection other than a hat or an umbrella. The winters are not especially rainy, even though the occasional violent winds and low temperatures entail slightly heavier protection.
Climatic extremes, such as extreme temperature highs or lows, are not common and no natural disasters occur.
