Buenos Aries, the capital of the Republic of Argentina, is located on the eastern shore of the La Plata River - an extensive estuary that opens onto the Atlantic Ocean. The city is located in the southern hemisphere of the American continent, latitude 34º 36’ and longitude 58º 26’.

The city’s limits are demarcated by Av. General La Paz, a beltway that, encircling the city from the North to the West, connects it with Greater Buenos Aires, forming a metropolitan area that constitutes one of the most populated urban centers in the world (ten million inhabitants in total). From East to South, the beltway connects the city with its the natural borders, the La Plata River and the Riachuelo River, respectively.

The city lies on a level terrain, extending 202km2. Adding the parts of Greater Buenos Aires that are united to the city proper both by proximity and cultural-economic activities, the city’s surface reaches 3 880 km2.
