The commercial areas in Buenos Aires are established according to the products they sell. As a result the city has pre-established zones for each category: antiques are sold in the San Telmo neighborhood, leather goods are sold in the Retiro neighborhood, souvenirs can be found in La Boca, books in San Nicolás (Av. Corrientes), garments in Balvanera and Flores. Additionally, the vanguard of designer objects, clothing and decoration form the center of Palermo Viejo.
Another type of fashion center that is characteristic of Buenos Aires, is the outlets, which are on concentrated on a long stretch of Cordoba Avenue, starting at Scalabrini Ortiz and reaching toward Godoy Cruz.
There are various commercial hours of operation which have been adopted according to the market needs, especially in neighborhoods that are strong tourist and leisure enclaves, groups into which, Las Canitas, Palermo Vierjo, Palermo Hollywood, Recoleta and San Telmo undoubtedly fall. There you can find stores that are open to shoppers until near midnight. Shopping malls, garment, footwear, gift and accessory sales galleries, as well as services such as hair salons and art exhibitions coexist with the porteña nightlife.
Kioscos and stations selling gas, cigarettes, refreshments, and other necessities proliferate in each of the city’s blocks (often two or three per block) and stay open throughout most of the night.
