The bar, the place par excellence to which the porteño chooses for his moments of solace, is more than a space where one consumers typical drinks or the coffee, which is so deeply entrenched in the daily rite. It is also a place to gather with friends, to hold business discussion, to meet for a romantic date, to get away to and relax between one activity and the next.
Modern bars have incorporated Internet services, newspapers at the patron’s disposition, reading rooms, live music, televisions and other up to date amenities.
However, those that we designate as noteworthy bares are those that have historical importance, those that refer to relevant events in the city’s history and whose permanence through time, whose architecture, that have been graced by distinguished personalities, and therefore gain their value from these occurrences.
Many of these bars, consequently, have transcended their original status to be commemorated and to perpetuate themselves through history in official fashion, as Cultural Patrimony of the City of Buenos Aires.
