Buenos Aires is a city that takes very good care of its natural heritage. Please find below a list of some unmissable outdoors outings on which you can get to know and appreciate that side of the city.
A gorgeous open-air walk through the city of Buenos Aires – a city smothered with green spaces like few others – will discover streets and avenues lined with jacarandás, ashes, poplars, melias and tipus among other trees, and huge spaces like squares, lakes and woods filled with alders and criolla willows. On the banks of the Río de la Plata, you can find the Costaneras Norte and Sur, and the Ecological Reserve.
Porteño squares are meeting places with various options. Frolic among the leafy greenness of their trees, relax on their public benches, socialize through group activities (petanque, cards, chess, pitch-and-toss) take children to play in the playgrounds, sunbathe or refresh yourself in the shade of the trees and even witness that the squares’ use for political meetings is part of the daily life of the city-dweller.
This line of coast with a walkway in front of the river is very close to Jorge Newbery Airport and located along Av. Rafael Obligado. Its recreational complexes offer gastronomic delights and various sports such as tennis, swimming, golf, basketball, football, windsurfing, sailing and fishing.
Ideal for walks in the open air, for aeorobics and cycling, and to appreciate from the paths that lead to the river with a great variety of trees, plants and bushes native to the Delta and coast of the Río de la Plata, as well as various species of fish and a host of amphibians and reptiles. A nighttime visit is recommended for a full moon tour.

Located in the barrio of Palermo, this park could be regarded as the green lung of the city. The area was converted into a park by French landscaper Carlos Thays in 1890. Its woods, lakes, leafy trees, statues, paths and gardens make it stand out from other parks. Places like the Rosedal, the Poet’s Garden and the Patio Andaluz crown a lovely walk through the vegetation. Horse-drawn carts (the traditional “Mateos”) offer a tour through its grounds in the late-19th century style.
Enjoy a diverse array of animal, fish, reptile and farm species, plus the recreation of a subtropical forest habitat, at this private zoo in the heart of the barrio of Palermo.

For its design, well-keptness and botanical flavor, this is quite different from the rest of the parks of the City of Buenos Aires. Its gardens with style and its five greenhouses provide an apt setting for its 5500 species of tree, bush and plant.

A natural commemoration of the Eastern garden tradition, the Japanese Gardens hold a grand attraction for adults and children with its variety of plants, flowers, bridges and waterfalls (shows are also put on), added to the singularity of its lakes which are the dwelling places for carp of all sizes and colors – species native to Japan – as well as its main building of Oriental architecture and art.

This is the only religious theme park in all Latin America. It recreates the scene of Jerusalem 2000 years ago.

This term is used for parks that have an infrastructure allowing a day of distraction in the open air. An example of this is Sarmiento Park, which provides facilities for sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis, as well as offering pilates, parrillas and parking.
You can enjoy paseos all year round, but in spring and summer there are special shows for adults and children that have a good artistic reputation.
