The culture that identifies the City of Buenos Aires as an enormous melting-pot in which different cultural idiosyncracies are combined together from the different waves of immigration and the earlier consequences of interrelation (criollas), is exhaustingly vast.
These cultural elements flourish in many environments such as libraries, cultural centers, museums, theaters, or in recreational contexts, such as in artisanal fairs, historical bars, public parks, and traditional music shows such as tango shows, or peñas (folk music shows).
Additionally, other cultural references can be found on the radio, on the televisión, in magazines and newspapers, among others, which do not require any specific information.
For those activities that do require specific information, consult the tourist information centers of the city, the “Agenda de la Ciudad” (city calendar) which will help organize a program of activities, check out the “espectáculos” (shows) section of the newspaper Página 12, or the special supplement “Cultura BA”, that can be picked up for free in information centers.
The City’s Department of Culture, noticeable by its green signs with a shield emblem that can be seen around the streets of Buenos Aires, publicizes the very best shows, often free or accessibly priced. You will also find in these centers the phone numbers and information to get in contact at once.
